2. Coat and Color

The Malinois has a short, double coat that is harsh to the touch. The undercoat provides insulation, while the outer coat protects against weather elements. The coat comes in two recognized color varieties:

• Fawn: A golden brown color with black tips, creating a wolf-like appearance.
• Sable: A mixture of black, fawn, and gray hairs, giving the dog a peppered or salt-and-pepper look.

The Malinois has a well-defined, wedge-shaped head with a moderately broad skull and a slightly arched brow. The muzzle is strong and tapers to a black nose. The eyes are almond-shaped, dark brown, and convey an intelligent and alert expression.

The ears are one of the most distinctive features of the Belgian Malinois. They are high-set and triangular in shape, with a straight and erect carriage. The inner ear flap is black, and the tip of the ear is slightly rounded. The ears are highly mobile and can be used to express a wide range of emotions, from curiosity to alertness.
